CDV is of an unidentified officer seated by a cloth covered table on which he rests one arm and his chasseur style kepi complete with quatrefoil on the crown and two parallel bands around the base.
The officer is posed a la Napoleon with a hand thrust into his dark frockcoat. He also wears matching dark trousers. His frockcoat has lieutenant shoulder straps and on each cuff is a galloon or quatrefoil made of gold tape or braid.
Clarity and contrast are very good. Mount is good but the paper has some rub spots on the subjects left leg and the bottom right corner is chipped. There is reversed period writing across the top of the image showing this is most likely a period copy.
Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for J. HARRINGTON… WATKINS, N.Y. There is also an orange 2 cent tax stamp hand canceled by the photographer with the initials “J.H.” the tax stamp dates the photo from August of 1864 to August of 1866. [ad] [ph:L]
