Very nice CDV of a 2nd lieutenant posed in a partial left profile beside a chair on which his overcoat and forage cap rest.

The subject wears a dark frockcoat with matching trousers. Clearly visible on his shoulder is a 2nd lieutenant’s shoulder strap. At his waist is a sash with sword belt with Pattern 1851 officer’s belt plate. Attached to the belt is a Model 1860 cavalry saber. His forage cap is devoid of insignia and a close look at his overcoat reveals it is held closed by Russian knots.

Contrast and clarity are excellent. Mount has been trimmed and the paper has some light spotting but this is minor and does not touch the subject.

Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for MANCHESTER BROS… PROVIDENCE, R.I. with a modern pencil notation at top that reads “FROM 2ND R.I. ALBUM.”  [ad] [ph:L]
