Image is of an unknown Confederate soldier posed with one hand on his hip and the other resting on a book that is resting on the base of a column. He wears a dark forage cap and a very light-colored frockcoat with matching trousers. Visible on the leg of the trousers is a thin dark vertical stripe.

Contrast and clarity are very good. Paper and mount are clean however the mount corners have been trimmed.

Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for ROCKWELL & COWELL… PETERSBURG, VA. There is also some collector information in pencil. Reverse also has scattered surface dirt and the outline of a removed tax stamp or label.

From the collection of the late William A. Turner.  [ad] [ph:L]
