CDV is of an unidentified ensign posed with one arm resting on the back of a chair. He wears a dark kepi with a “US” within a wreath shaped like a square knot on the front of the crown, dark frockcoat with should straps that have anchors in the rank field and matching dark trousers with a light leg stripe.
Image has excellent clarity and contrast. Paper and mount are very nice.
Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for BRADLEY & RULOFSON…. SAN FRANCISCO. There is also a 2 cent tax stamp dating the image between August of 1864 and August of 1866. [ad] [ph:L]
