Backmark: “E. & H.T. Anthony/ 561 Broadway/ New York.” Gov. Andrews served as the Bay State governor from 1861 through 1866, was responsible for raising some the Union’s first black regiments, including the famed 54th Mass. The lithograph cartoon depicts the chubby Governor gamboling against a backdrop of marching “Mass. Colored Volunteers”. The image is sharp & clear with the hint of a few lightly smudged spots in the upper corners. Else VG. Excellent piece for Mass. CW & USCT collectors.
