This three-quarter standing view of General Ulysses S. Grant features a rare view of the commander wearing a black arm ribbon in mourning of President Lincoln after his assassination.
Grant is shown in a characteristic pose with full uniform and arm cocked to emphasize the mourning ribbon honoring Abraham Lincoln following his murder by actor John Wilkes Booth.
The reverse/back is marked by the photographer with a stamp that reads “Photographed by I.N. TEAGUE, Rooms four doors below the P.O., Lisbon Street, Lewiston, Maine” and the text “Duplicates of the Negative of which the Picture is a proof, can be had at any time.”
This Carte De Visite photo measures 4.25” in length and approximately 2.3” in width.
A rare snapshot in time of General Grant during one of the most tumultuous periods in our country’s history. An essential piece for the Civil War photography collector. [jet][ph:L]
