Full-standing studio view of Pineo in uniform. He wears a military vest and a frock coat with shoulder straps (lt. colonel). His kepi rests on a ledge next to him. Wreath insignia visible on hat. Clear image with good contrast. Plain mount has pin holes at top and bottom. No photographer's backmark.
Peter Pineo was from Boston and a 37 year-old Surgeon when he enlisted on 6/11/1861 as a Surgeon in the 9th Mass. Infantry. He mustered out of that regiment on 8/14/1861 to accept a commission into the US Volunteers Medical Department as Brigade Surgeon. Promoted to Lt. Colonel on 2/9/1863 (Lt. Colonel & Medical Inspector). He was Mustered Out of service on 10/31/1865. Pineo died 9/10/1891 in West Somerville, MA.
