Bust view of young officer in a dark frock coat with a rather high collar. Image is identified only as “DR. POOLEY USA” on the bottom of the mount.

Image has good clarity and contrast. Lower mount corners are clipped. Card is glued or taped to a piece of cardboard stock.

Research shows two doctors named Pooley in the Union Army.

First is James Henry Pooley who was born in England. He was made assistant surgeon on the US Army Medical Staff on August 5, 1861. He resigned on April 27, 1863.

The other is Thomas Rickett Pooley who was also born in England. He was listed as a medical cadet from 1862 to 1864 before being assigned to the US Army Medical Staff on May 18, 1864 and mustered out on June 15, 1865.    [AD]
