MODEL 1906 US ARMY MESS CUP – DATED 1907

$65.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2021-44

Far less common than the Models 1874, 1885, and the later Model 1908 Experimental Mess Cups, the Model 1906 Mess Cup was the first US Army general issue mess cup made of aluminum.

This cup has an aluminum body, tin handle insulated with washers, and the standard “R.I.A. / 1907 / U.S.” stamping on the handle. A slot in the handle allowed the soldier to use other utensils to place the cup into, or retrieve the cup from a fire without burning his hands.

This aluminum cup measures 4” high and 4.25” in diameter, was press formed with the bottom integral to the sides, has a rolled lip, and a handle riveted to the side of the cup.  The cup is full form, with only a few minor dents on the bottom. The arsenal stamping is clear and legible, and both of the handle washers are present and intact.   [jet]  [ph:L]
