CDV is a waist-up view of Andrew Jackson wearing a dark colored civilian frock coat and vest with white shirt and cravat. Image is clean and clear with good contrast. There is a small tear at the top right edge. Bottom of mount is labeled, “ANDREW JACKSON / ENTERED ACCORDING TO AN ACT OF CONGRESS, IN THE YEAR 1861, BY C.D. FREDRICKS & CO. IN THE CLERK’S OFFICE OF THE UNITED STATES FOR THE SO. DISTRICT OF NEW YORK”. Backmark is present on reverse and reads, “CHARLES D. FREDRICKS & CO. “SPECIALISTS” 587 BROADWAY, N.Y.”.
Andrew Jackson (March 15, 1767 – June 8, 1845) was a soldier and statesman who served as the seventh President of the United States from 1829 to 1837. Before being elected to the presidency, Jackson gained fame as a general in the United States Army and served in both houses of Congress. As president, Jackson sought to advance the rights of the "common man" against a "corrupt aristocracy" and to preserve the Union. [SL]
