Contrast is a little light and the paper shows some age. Buell is shown wearing the uniform of a Major General with black velvet collar and cuffs. Back has collector ID and imprint for E. & H. T. Anthony.

Image is by Anthony using a Brady negative. Buell graduated from West Point in the Class of 1841. He fought in the Mexican War being severely wounded at the battle of Churubusco. He helped to organize and train the Army of the Potomac before being sent West and assuming command of the Army of the Ohio. He captured Nashville and took part in the battles of Shiloh and Perryville. After that point he was too slow in his movements and was replaced by General Rosecrants.  [ad]
