This CDV is of two unidentified soldiers who were each wounded in the arm. Each has a sleeve rolled up which shows how their arms are disfigured. Both men are seated and wearing trousers with braces and light colored shirts. This image was apparently taken as an example of how individuals survived their injuries or surgeries. It likely came from a Civil War surgeon’s collection of images of patients showing their various wounds. The bottom of the mount is marked in red ink, “COVLS. PHOTO 1731”.
Reverse of image is not marked.
Image is clear with good contrast. Some light surface dirt is present.
