Post-war bust view wearing civilian clothing. Printed at the bottom of the image is “CHARLES A. BURNHAM, Co. C / ASS’T SURGEON 3^D N.H.V.” Period ink inscriptions in three different hands; the first is in black ink: “Dr. Charles A. Burnham”; the second, in red ink, reads, “Dr. Burnham / Whereabouts unknown”; and the third in black ink: “Co. C”.  No photographer’s mark.

Overall very good condition. Minor scattered wear and staining to edges of mount.

Born in 1837 in Pembroke, NH, Burnham was a 25 year old medical student living in Haverhill, MA when he enlisted on 11/1/61 in Boston as a Private.  On 11/5/61 he mustered into Co. C, 2^nd NH Infantry. Discharged for promotion on 11/18/62. On 1/6/63 he mustered into Field & Staff 3^rd NH Infantry as Assistant Surgeon. Discharged for disability on 9/22/64. Following the war he lived in Boston, and was GAR Post #15 Surgeon. Died on 2/21/1903 in Haverhill, MA.   [ld]
