Image shows approx. 56 GAR veterans lined up in a street in Rochester, New York during the 45th National Encampment.
The veterans are arranged in a single file with a US flag at center. They all wear double-breasted dark coats with matching trousers and white visor caps devoid of any insignia. The Post officers stand out front with the Post Commander standing front and center. On his cap is the name of the Post “PIERCE.” Off to the left are some younger men in band uniforms with stacked drums. The bass drum is painted with “F. E. PIERCE POST NO 455 DRUM CORPS G.A.R. ROCHESTER, N.Y.” Many of the veterans are wearing GAR membership badges and reunion ribbons.
Bottom center has “F. E. PIERCE POST NO. 455, G.A.R. 45TH NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT, ROCHESTER AUGUST 23RD 1911.”
Contrast and clarity are very good. Framed the photo meas. 42.25 x 13.00 inches. Frame is of wood minus any decoration. Photographer is F. W. Brehm. [ad] [ph:L]
