In the Prussian Army of 1870, certain Regiments were designated as fusiliers, as was the Guard Fusilier Regiment. In addition the third battalions of all Guard, Grenadier and Line infantry regiments retained the designation 'Fusilier Battalion'. They were armed with a slightly shorter version of the Dreyse Rifle that took a sword bayonet rather than the standard socket bayonet.

In this photo you have four Prussian Fusiliers, two standing and two sitting on chairs. The two in the back are wearing full marching gear. In addition to cartridge boxes and field packs they are both holding Dreyse rifles with sword bayonets. One is also holding a beer. The two sitting are in uniform but without the field gear. One is pouring a beer into a glass held by the other Fusilier who is also smoking a pipe. The photo is in a 6 ½ inch oval wooden frame.  [FF] [PH:L]
