Albumen image housed in a pressed metal frame that has been painted gold. Frame meas. approx. 8 x 10 inches overall.
Image shows the male subject wearing a dark frock coat or shell jacket with shoulder scales and Corporal stripes. The collar of the coat has light piping which also runs down the front of the coat or jacket behind the buttons. The buttons have a raised decoration at center but from the angle of the image the decoration cannot be discerned. This fellow is either a foreign soldier or the member of a US state militia.
The image has good clarity and good contrast. There are numerous scratches around the border and on the lower portions of the subject. The subject’s eyes have been tinted blue and there are several small stray blue marks near the bridge of the subject’s nose. [ad]
