This photograph comes from a respected collection of Gettysburg and Civil War-related photography. It is mounted on a dark gray cardboard with geometric border designs.
Though the photographer is unknown, an accompanying note suggests the image may have been taken in Allentown, Pennsylvania and could feature members of the 147th Pennsylvania Infantry (not confirmed). The view shows elderly veterans standing and seated in two rows, with a national flag, drum, and several men wearing GAR ribbons.
The backing card measures 9” x 7” with light corner chipping. On the reverse in pencil is, “G.A.R. veterans of Civil War / think Allentown / 147 PA Inf ?” The mounted photo itself measures 6.5” x 4.75” and is missing a small corner at upper right.
Overall, this is a neat image of a group of US veterans that would display nicely and make a wonderful addition to any collection. [cm][ph:L]
