19th Century oblong  pewter STATIONARY BOX

 

The inside is divided into compartments, one very long for quills or pencils, and a square compartment. And two short oblong compartments used for wax or stamps etc. This was often used as a child’s box, or kept on an office desk. Though in common use in the mid-19th century, in the early days of Victoria Regina, this box today is a real rarity. Comparatively few have survived through the years. This splendid specimen, was Made in England, c. 1850-60”.

Box measures: 7’ length X 3 ¾” width X 1 ¼” height. Overall Condition: Light grayish patina surface with some scratches and a very light unnoticeable dent on top. No maker’s marks or company manufacturer’s name present. Top hinges sound and undamaged.  [tb]
