These cards were manufactured by the AMERICAN CARD COMPANY of New York and bear a patent date of 1862. The suits in the deck are stars, US Flags, US Shields and Eagles. There are no numbers on the cards and the picture cards are Line Officers for Jacks, Columbia for Queens and Generals for Kings. All cards are present and in good condition with only light edge wear.
The backs of the cards have a US shield with a panoply of flags at center with a fouled anchor surrounded by a floral pattern and surmounted by a sunburst star with a US at center. All printing is red or blue on white paper.
This exact deck of cards is pictured on page 47 of Frank Mroczka’s book “STARTING YOUR FIRST CIVIL WAR COLLECTION.” We have this book available for purchase, our item# ST303, priced at $39.95.
