Framed in brown wood w/interior gold trim, 22” x18, w/black paper backing and hang-wire. Interior oval lithograph, 7.5” x 5, Johnson ALS, 2 pp., 10” x 8. Double matted in light gray and cream. Frame exhibits minor knicks at the extremities. Framed letter displays very slight soiling at right margin Else VG and highly attractive.

Letter Text:

“W.P. Hopkins, Esq…Dear Sir, I had the pleasure of receiving your note of the 1^st instant yesterday—and have had that of reading the interesting paper referred to in it, today. And thank you very cordially for the two pleasures.

I am very sorry to be unable to give information of Gen’l Pickett’s relatives or to furnish you with Gen’l Sumner’s autograph, I may obtain the address of the former. If so it shall be sent to you promptly. Sincerely reciprocating your kind feelings, I am / Very truly yours / J.E. Johnston.”
