Framed in brown wood w/interior gold trim, 22” x18, w/black paper backing and hang-wire. Interior oval lithograph, 7.5” x 5, Johnson ALS, 2 pp., 10” x 8. Double matted in light gray and cream. Frame exhibits minor knicks at the extremities. Framed letter displays very slight soiling at right margin Else VG and highly attractive.
Letter Text:
“W.P. Hopkins, Esq…Dear Sir, I had the pleasure of receiving your note of the 1st instant yesterday—and have had that of reading the interesting paper referred to in it, today. And thank you very cordially for the two pleasures.
I am very sorry to be unable to give information of Gen’l Pickett’s relatives or to furnish you with Gen’l Sumner’s autograph, I may obtain the address of the former. If so it shall be sent to you promptly. Sincerely reciprocating your kind feelings, I am / Very truly yours / J.E. Johnston.”
