Gold colored, British sovereign coin scale with marked “SOVERIGN WARRENTED” on the scales. Items, such as this, were made circa 1845 or later. The British Sovereign was a minted coin beginning with King George III in 1816. It was the standard trade coin of Europe, North America, Africa, Asia, and Australia.
The item measures 3 ¾” long and is made of brass. Overall, the scale retains its original golden color with areas of tarnish. There is a section to measure one gold sovereign and a half gold sovereign. If a coin was placed on the scale, and the scale balanced, it was a tried-and-true sovereign. On the weighted section of the scale is the British Crown stamp. [mk] [ph:L]
