This saddle has a peculiar shaped cantle and a low pommel, similar in design to a flat English saddle. The back of the cantle is decorated with five rows of brass tacks. The seat remains in nice condition. The under panel shows wear and has a quilted appearance to the outside leather surface from all the stitching, horse hair padding, and a soiled cotton pillow-ticking underside.
The large saddle flaps are approximately 14” wide and extend about 17” longer than the panel. These are stitched and tacked on. Several brass tacks and ornaments adorn the junction of the flaps and the seat.
Stirrup leathers are complete and both iron stirrups are attached. There is a short set of straps that run down on each side that are used to attach the girth (which is not present).
An old saddle (circa 1820s-1850s) with nice smooth and even wear to the leather; shows moderate wear padded underside. Complete and in nice condition. [jet]
