A basque bodice with several unusual features. The fabric is two-tone gold silk gingham. Prussian blue silk taffeta is used for the collar, the cuffs, and embellishes the lower edge of the sides of the peplum. The same blue silk is used for piping at the armscyes and along the lower edge of the front and back of the peplum.
The hand-sewn bodice is styled with a V neckline at the front, with a standing collar at the sides and back neckline. The center back opening closes with hand-painted mother-of-pearl buttons, hand-worked buttonholes, and a single brass hook and thread loop at the neckline. The narrow coat sleeves are accented with cuffs that have a turned-back facing embellished with the same buttons. The peplum is pointed at the front, and has two deep points on either side of the center back opening. Gold silk tassels are sewn to the points in the back.
