A lovely simple summer dress made from semi-sheer sprigged muslin in red on white. The machine-sewn gathered bodice has a round neckline and front hook-and-eye opening. Tiny decorative buttons are made of drawn threadwork over wooden molds. The bishop sleeves have a ruffle at the wrist created with a cord inserted into a casing at the top of the sleeve hem. The bodice is lined with lightweight cotton; the sleeves are unlined. The bodice and sleeves have been pieced in several locations, and there are numerous areas that have been repaired with carefully worked mending. The unlined gauged skirt is hand-sewn. It is finished at the lower edge with a 2½" deep hem facing. One half of the hem facing is made from linen; the other half is white cotton woven is a decorative stripe.
