1830’S-1850’S EYEGLASSES WITH TELESCOPING TEMPLES AND SHADED LENS

$75.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 205-146

Early form of dual-set folding lens frame with green shaded lens glass. Originally designed as a medical apparatus to treat diseases of the eyes by shading out bright sunlight both forward and on the peripheral side of the frame. The temples are designed in the form of telescoping- interlocking arms to adjust to the wearer’s head size, and ending in two loops for a ribbon that acts like a lanyard around the neck. There is a small stamped cartouche located on the outside right temple area with a manufacturers’ name (Schildknecht) in script. The entire frame is made of brass, but there is one repair to be noted located at the terminus hinge joint on the left temple. The screw is missing and a wire had been inserted to hold the temple to the front frame. No other damages or losses.
