CIVIL WAR LEATHER BELT HOLSTER FOR A PERCUSSION REVOLVER

$250.00 SOLD

Item Code: 422-41

This leather accoutrement is a Civil War-era belt flap holster popular prior to and after the War. Holster is machine-made and measures 10½” long with its flap closed. The pattern and configuration of the piece is that it accommodates a Colt Model 1849 cap and ball revolver. Holster is cut from a large single piece of black bridle leather that is folded over and machine-stitched to form the main body. In good condition, the holster bears no visible maker marks. Exterior surface is strong but exhibits scattered areas of moderate scuffing mostly at the flap cover hinge with flaking and surface cracking overall. Leather flap has two small tears at the buttplate area. Original closure tab is a narrow leather strap 4” x 1” still strongly stitched to the flap. Tab has one adjustment hole that fits snugly onto a small brass, bullet-head finial attached to the main body.

A 3½” long, leather tab serves as a single belt loop secured to the body with two brass rivets. Seam stitching is original and strong. The holster body exhibits smooth hard surface with just light crazing in spots. Fine edge tooling along the seams. Muzzle has no bottom plug and is tightly stitched closed. A handsome civilian-style leather holster is in good condition and makes a fine adder to any leather collection.
