Hard to find, this is a black leather holster made to accommodate the Colt, Remington and other revolvers.
The holster “pocket” measures about 11” along its front edge. Holster is made from two pieces of black bridle leather; the flap being machine-stitched to the body. There remains evidence of where the closure tab was sewn to the underside of the flap, but tab is missing. Holster has a wide belt loop on the reverse that measures 3 ½” wide at the top and is partially stitched and riveted in place; one of the rivets is missing. Loop is stiff with a small ½” tear. Holster body does not have its leather plug closing the end of the holster. General outline of a revolver is visible in the leather. The brass, bullet-head finial remains attached to the main body. There are no makers’ marks visible.
In overall good condition, this holster shows use. Entire leather body shows light crazing but no loss of the surface finish. This is a good, military-style flap holster that would accommodate a Civil War revolver. [jet]
