Great condition Civil War U.S. issue carbine cartridge box, meant to accommodate 56-50 Spencer cartridges. The box has supple leather with some crazing on the outer flap. The inside of the box is marked “JE CONDIOT NEW YORK”. The inner flap retains both leather ears with some broken stitches on the left. Both roller buckles are securely attached and the brass closure finial is untarnished. Each of the belt attachment loops is complete and secured by one rivet each. The implement pouch is complete and intact, as is all stitching throughout the body of the box. A box plate was once affixed to the outer flap as evidenced by the vertical incisions present. The leather closure tab is worn but still fully functional and completely intact.
The box measures 6” across the outer flap and 2.25” in width excluding the flap. [cm][ph:L]
