$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-6035

Box is for carrying the .58 caliber rifle musket cartridge. Outer flap is in very good condition. The leather is clean with some light curl of the lower corners from use. The box has an oval “US” plate attached. The face of the plate is smooth and clean with a good “US” stamping. Surface has a nice mellow patina. The latch tab is unbroken and attached by two rows of stitching.

Inner flap has both ears firmly attached and the leather surface is in smooth and very fine condition. The tins are present inside the box. Implement pocket is complete but shows wear and moderate surface cracking.

Bottom of the box has both roller buckles and a round brass finial. Reverse has both the sling and belt loops with the belt loops being riveted and sewn. Loops are in nice condition and also show "pull" from field use.

This is a fine and complete example of a Civil War infantry cartridge box. [jet][ph:L]
