LATE WAR PERCUSSION CAP BOX, WITHOUT INNER FLAP

$95.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1179-520

The leather on this box is in nice used condition. The wear patterns are consistent with use. The outer flap has heavy crazing from age and use. There is a faint sub-inspectors stamp just above the latch. Each edge of the outer flap has a short line of stitching that holds both of the ears on the to the underside.

Upon opening the box there is no inner flap. These boxes were made this way purposely and are a mate for the Pattern 1864 cartridge box that was also made without an inner flap. This was only done for a short time only.

The inside of the box has all its lamb’s wool and a nipple pick.

The body of the box is in good condition with the brass finial present.

Reverse of the box shows wear to match the front. Both belt loops are present and in good condition.

The brass finial and the copper rivets holding the loops on the reverse all show some verdigris.  [ad][ph:L]
