This cartridge box was for the model 1842 single shot pistol of .54 caliber. Outer flap exhibits some surface crazing. The small sized, oval “US” box plate is secured to the face of the box. Closing tab is complete and unbroken. Tab is sewn to the underside of the outer flap. The inner flap is unmarked and in nice condition. This flap covers a single, wide cartridge tin. Only one of the original four dividers remains in the top portion of the tin. The inner flap retains both “ears” that are tightly attached. There was never an implement pouch in this pattern of cartridge box. The stitching on the body of the box is tight and unbroken. Belt straps are only sewn. Brass finial on the bottom.
Box measures approximately 6 ¼” x 1 ¼” x 3 ½” (for the short .54 caliber round ball cartridge). The brass cartridge box plate is in good condition. [jet]
