Nice black leather cap box in good to very good overall condition.
The outer flap has a nice smooth surface with a strong inspector’s mark in an oval that reads “R. WHITE / U.S. ORD. DEPT. / SUB INSPECTOR.” The latch tab shows light wear but is strong.
The inner flap has both ears and is weakly maker marked “S. H. YOUNG & CO. / NEWARK / N.J.” This inner flap is not as nice as the exterior. It has moderate crazing and some very slight surface finish loss. The interior has the fleece and pick.
The body of the box matches the outer flap in condition. The leather surface is free from crazing and is very smooth. Pear shaped brass finial is present at bottom.
Reverse surface is just as nice with both belt loops intact. Surface of the belt loops show some minor wear.
