Leather is in good condition. Minor crease lines from use on top of flap. Latch tab is worn but complete. All seams are tight. Large belt loop on back at top. Two small 5 pointed stars are stamped on each side and under flap on the body of the box. Outer flap is embossed with “USN” in an oval. Single straight line stitching holds the latch tab in place. Inner flap is nicely stamped “Navy Yard Phila. 1865.” Outline of missing implement pocket can be seen.
