Offered here is a gunner’s accoutrement set consisting of a leather fuse pouch and a friction primer pouch on a rarely seen gunner’s waist belt.

The leather waist belt is a rare piece. This “gunner’s belt” is a simple belt with a roller buckle sewn in place over a uniform protector. That piece features a slot that the belt feeds through. There are tooled lines along the edges. Leather is soft and pliable with some cracking, and one small triangular piece off the top edge in the back.

Mounted on the left hip area of the belt is a small leather box for friction primers.  The box is relatively square in shape to accommodate the shape of the friction primer packs.  An outer flap covers the contents with an unbroken latch tab sewn to the underside. A corresponding brass finial is on the bottom. A single wide belt loop is sewn to the. Unmarked. Leather shows surface wear on one side of outer flap.

The leather fuse pouch is mounted on the right hip area.  The outer flap is stamped with a “US” just above where the latch tab is stitched to the underside of the flap.  This tab is broken at the finial hole.  The interior flap leather is in good condition and complete with both ears. Brass finial is attached on the bottom. The body of the box and the two belt loops on the back show only light wear and use.

Stitching is complete and unbroken on all pieces.

A great example of a Civil War artillery gunner’s rig from the Texas Civil War Museum display.  [jet][ph:L]
