This is an officer’s sword belt rig in good condition. Belt is constructed of folded leather that is stitched. Nice double-line stitching along outer edges on the belt. Belt leather measures approximately 32” long (as set) x 1.6” wide, with about 6” extra that could be expanded. Leather is smooth and supple with light wear. All stitching on the belt remains unbroken. There is a leather “uniform protector” (which goes behind buckle when worn) attached to the “keeper” end of the belt. Two sliding belt loops.

Complete with one long and one short sword drop. Drops are complete with brass hardware including snap hooks at the ends. Long hanger remains complete, unbroken, and fine. Short hanger is complete but has separated at the floating belt loop that kept it on the belt; now loose with evidence where it was once glued to the belt for display. There is also a “Sam Brown” shoulder strap which is now separate and has damage to both ends; could likely still be fine on display.

Pattern 1851 style of buckle features high relief details on front and wide (1”) tongue on back. Complete with brass keeper and brass wire adjustment buckle. The number “13” is stamped into the reverse of the keeper.

Overall, a good and displayable Civil War officer’s sword belt that would look good on a uniform display. From the Texas Civil War Museum collection.   [jet] [ph:L]
