This buff leather, Model-1851 sword belt comes complete with sword hangers, shoulder attachment (Sam Brown strap), and all matching brass hardware.

The belt shows some evidence of use with a "rubbed" wear appearance on various areas of the belt and slight stretching of the hanger ends at the rings, indicating a heavy sword was once attached. Overall, the whole piece remains in very fine condition. Hand stitching is very strong and intact throughout. All brass wears a pleasing tarnish.

The belt plate features a beautiful one-piece German silver wreath surrounding a proud Federal eagle. The stamped bench mark numbers do not match, however the plate and keeper have a perfect fit.

The m1851 regulation sword belt was issued to enlisted cavalry before and during the Civil War, and could be seen on enlisted artillerymen and non-commissioned officers under specific circumstances that required carrying a sword.

Belt measures approximately 37" in length and 1.75" in width. The shoulder strap attachment measures approximately 37". Long and short hangers have brass snap hooks on the end.

This belt was acquired from the Texas Civil War Museum collection. [jet][ph:L]
