M1851 BUFF LEATHER SWORD BELT WITH ALL STRAPS

$675.00 ON HOLD

Quantity Available: 1

Item Code: 480-385

This well used buff leather Model 1851 sword belt comes complete with sword hangers, shoulder strap (Sam Brown), all brass hardware, and NCO style eagle belt plate with German silver wreath.

The brown buff leather remains in solid, pliable condition, although through hard use and sweat, many portions of the surface are worn to a near smooth finish and show wear. Stitching remains strong and unbroken throughout with the exception of one small area near the riveted tab for the square shoulder strap attachment. All brass shares a light, mellow patina.

The belt plate features a beautiful wreath of German silver beneath a proud Federal eagle. This style features the sun rays surrounding the eagle on the top and both sides. Stamped bench mark number “800” on the buckle matches that on the brass keeper.

The m1851 regulation sword belt was issued to enlisted cavalry before and during the Civil War, and could be seen on enlisted artillerymen and non-commissioned officers under specific circumstances that required the hanging and wearing of a sword.

Belt leather measures approximately 36” in length and approximately 1.75” in width. Shoulder strap attachment has a full length of approximately 37”. Sword hangers, one long and one short, have brass swivel snap hooks on the ends.

This belt is strong and complete, and “was there.”   [jet] [ph:L]
