Waist belt is of white buff leather dyed black on one side. Belt is full length with four size adjustment holes and brass keeper. Leather is strong and in good condition.
Pattern 1839 oval US belt plate is in mint condition and looks unused. It has mush of its original gilt with only small spots of oxidation on the edge. Reverse of the plate has perfectly smooth lead, free of dings and dents. Attachments hooks are arrow shaped and the tongue is present.
Still on the belt is a very nice cap box with strong leather.
The outer flap has a very readable Ordnance Department stamping and an integral latch tab that shows light wear.
The interior flap has both ears and is strongly marked “S. H. YOUNG NEWARK N.J.” Flap has small area of surface finish loss.
The body of the box is excellent and the inside has both fleece and nipple pick. Beltloops show light surface crazing. [ad] [ph:L]
