This is an officer’s sword belt rig in good condition. Belt is constructed of folded leather that is stitched. Belt measures approximately 39” long x 1 ¾” wide. Leather is smooth and supple with moderate surface cracking. Leather “uniform protector” (which goes behind buckle when worn) also shows very little wear. Shield-shaped “hip pad” where J-hook is mounted shows wear on the inside surface. Two sliding belt loops remain on belt.
Pattern 1851 buckle features high relief details on front and wide tongue on back. No bench mark numbers on buckle or keeper. Two leather sword hangers are present. Front (short) hanger remains strong. Longer strap has some cracks. Brass snap hooks, J-hook, and “buttons” are all in place. Most stitching remains. No “Sam Brown” shoulder strap. Overall, a very good and complete officer’s sword belt that would look good on a uniform display. [jet]
