This is the Pattern 1856 enlisted man’s leather belt with the brass keeper and oval Pattern 1839 US belt plate.
The belt is made of black buff leather which meas. approx. 1.75 inches wide. Attached to one end is a brass keeper which first made its appearance in early 1863. The opposite end holds a Pattern 1839 oval US belt plate with “puppy paw” style hooks and tongue.
The leather is in good condition but it is stiff with light surface dirt. The plate looks to still have much of the original finish on the face while the reverse has 100% of the lead fill.
