This is a leather shoulder sling designed for use with Civil War muskets.
The sling is different in that is does not have a fixed leather loop at one end. It does have the usual brass wire hook on the other, which is riveted and mounted under a sewn down flap. The hook engaged one of holes along the length of the sling, which allowed the length to be adjusted. There is also a sliding leather loop remaining. The sling is approximately 64” long overall including the brass hook, and 1.2” wide.
This original musket sling is in lightly used condition. Black bridle leather with lightly tooled edges. There are “folds” where this wrapped around swivels when it was once mounted on a musket. Otherwise, the leather remains soft and supple with no weak spots.
This sling could easily be installed on a musket to enhance the display of the weapon. [jet][ph:L]
