An original set of saddle bags with date and inspector’s marks. Large bags measure approximately 12” wide x 10” tall x 2” deep. Machine stitched. Bags are unlined. Large outer flaps feature a folded and sewn carrying handle. Bags once had closure straps and buckles which were removed.
A large piece of leather connects the two bags so as to sling them over the horse. This central portion is stamped with an old English, script “US”. Under that are inspector’s initials and then a date of “1861”.
These are well used saddle bags and show heavy wear. The condition of leather is still good overall. The usual surface cracking and crazing is present. A very nice addition to any saddle. [jet]
