This pair of leather saddle bags is in very good condition. Each bag flap is embossed with a strong “US” and both bags have all three of the closure straps and buckles. The exterior leather is dirty from age and storage but still supple. There is some light wear on edges but otherwise the leather is very good. Both bags have their button-in cloth linings and all the buttons to anchor the linings are present. However, the cloth linings are not buttoned in but are just set in place in the bag. This was done to keep pressure off the buttons.
Connecting the two bags to each other is a wide strip of leather with a hole at center for attaching the bags to the back of the saddle. This strip shows some wear but is solid. Stamped in the leather just above one of the bags is “LONG 1917 E.A.W.” in three lines.
