This Civil War era original leather flag pole carry sling is in complete, very good condition. Made of black bridle leather, the three-piece sling was to be worn around the marcher’s neck during parades and various official ceremonies to carry the flag. In very good condition, it consists of two, leather belt-like sections and a leather tapered cup. One belt section is folded over and stitched to secure a large, japanned, D-ring roller buckle, clasp with a leather loop. Opposite end stitched to a heavy 3” high, 2” diameter leather cup. Second belt section has nine small holes to catch the clasp while the opposite end is stitched to the leather cup. In operation, the flag pole would rest in the cup while the marcher held the mid part of the pole. All leather is strong and supple with just light flaking and light crazing to its surface. Seldom-seen belt is unmarked.
