This is an original, unmarked Union infantryman’s regulation pattern leather sling used with Federal rifle-muskets. The rifle sling measures 1¼” wide x 51” long and retains its brass hook and two of its original leather belt adjusters. Constructed of black bridle leather, the exterior of the sling displays a surface of light cracking and creasing overall. Entire leather sling exhibits light to moderate scuffing with surface crazing. Leather shows weak spots from where the sling was looped through the longarm’s swivels. All stitching good. It appears there was an attempt to cut the owner's initials or name into the exterior portion of the sling; the cuts are shallow and do not go all the way through. Original leather slings for the rifle muskets are difficult to find but this leather rifle sling is a good specimen of Federal leather equipment and would add to any Civil War accoutrement collection or on a musket.
