Made for a forage cap or slouch hat, this insignia is a small, stamped brass letter “H”. Designates the soldier who wore it as being from an infantry, artillery or cavalry unit. Device measures ½” high. The reverse of the letter is lead filled and retains one thin brass pin, strong and tight; the second is missing. No dents, no bends. A fine uniform accoutrement for a Civil War era and later.
