This rolled and stamped insignia device is an excellent example of a Civil War sheet-brass artifact that depicts the U.S. military’s artillery branch of service. Worn on the cap of members in the Federal Army’s ‘long arm’, this Civil War specimen is in strong, very good condition. The one-piece insignia specimen measures 3 1/8” long and is 1¾” high. Never cleaned, the exterior shows a pleasing, original gold gilt bright finish while the interior of the brass insignia has a dull bronze patina. Device features two howitzer-type tubes crossed at their center points. Each face of the cannon exhibits raised tool lines and displays no bends, dents or blemishes. Piece retains all four original, small brass wire loops soldered to the body, which are so often times broken off. A fine, original, hard-to-find, Federal Army artifact and an excellent Civil War uniform accoutrement.
