Offered here is a Spanish-American War-era Model 1895 officer’s cap insignia.
This attractive piece is made of gold and silver bullion thread stitched to a white wool background. In the shape of a keystone, this has a stiffener inside and cotton back with a brass spring pin to attach to cap or uniform.
This insignia measures 2.5” x 2.5” at widest points. All bullion thread is complete and fine with no pulls. There is some wear to the nap of the wool and there are a couple of small moth nips. Overall in very fine condition.
The army white uniform was intended for use in hot and or tropical climates, particularly for troops stationed in Florida, the American southwest, and the Philippines. [jet] [ph:L]
