This very fine and fancy insignia features an embroidered New York State Seal. The State Seal features an eagle atop the New York crest with “EXCELSIOR” applied to a ribbon under. Highly ornate, this also has a red, white, and blue flag incorporated and exhibits extra fine detail overall. This piece, for a chapeau, is in the shape of an elongated oval of sorts.
This piece remains in very fine condition. The background of black vervet retains it knap. Gold and silver bullion thread remains tight and perfect with light, but uniform tarnish. A wide border of bullion forms an edge around the entire piece.
Back of patch is covered with original paper pasted over the extensive thread-work. The paper is fairly brittle now. There were never any wire loops as this was meant to be sewn to the chapeau.
Measures 4” tall x 2” wide. A fine state-issued insignia in good condition. [jet] [ph:L]
