Stamped brass Model 1872 Infantry hunting horn insignia meant for wear on the officers kepi.

Horn is smaller and of a slightly different design than its Civil War counterpart. Item meas. approx. 2.25 inches wide. The horn has the usual single twist with attached bugle cord.

The reverse has both of the original wires for attaching to the cap.

These insignia were used until 1875 but there were so many left in stock they were issued to musicians and trumpeters.

Item is in good condition with only a light patina from age.
